Term 4 Week 4

“FESTIVILION” 2019 - Sat 16th November

Our kids are working on various artworks this term which will form part of ‘Festivilion’ at Bondi Pavilion.

There will be kids art workshops and 'clay play', music from Rose Bay Secondary College, jazz and choir performances and more. Wander through and see the marine installation, grab some food from the sizzle and enjoy the fairground atmosphere. Half of BBPS will be there, with performances from the violin group, the choir and dance ensembles. Come and enjoy this local community festival!

ENROLMENTS 2020 ::

Enrolments are open, and all families are required by the government to go through the process annually. Your form will be pre-filled from this year, so it won’t take long.

When you log on, you’ll see a new sub-menu called “Enrolment for 2020”. Please click and review all existing information, add any new children for 2020 and on the last page, click “FINALISE”.
You’ll receive a system-generated confirmation email that your form has been submitted for approval. We will process those approvals on an as-submitted basis.
We do not anticipate any waiting lists for 202 - fantastic news!!

SUN PROTECTION ::

Our SunSmart policy is NO HAT - NO PLAY. The same as school’s.
Please make sure your children bring hats to school every day
We give the kids sunscreen every afternoon at roll call.

CLUB NEWS ::

  • Our ARTY CRAFTY kids got busy making origami bookmarks this week - check out the pics. This was a kids’ suggestion, and they loved the activity!

  • we had a tonne of SPORTS happening this week - rugby, soccer, gymnastics and of course WHEELS DAY for our little ones this term. And don’t forget Beyblade Club!

  • Our SENIORS are busy making an art installation for FESTIVILION (see photos). And Caprese Salad was on the menu for Seniors’ Kitchen this week.

We had a HALLOWEEN PARTY on Wednesday. The kids and the team had an amazing time.

CLUB NEWS ::

  • HALLOWEEN: apart from having a party on Wednesday, we did face painting and hair colouring on Thursday to help kids get ready for the trick or treat!

  • BAKING CLUB: Kids with Mia made an amazing carrot cake. Kids were using grater - no accident happened :-)

  • ART & CRAFT CLUB: kids were busy prepping art material for the Festivilion happening in Pavilion.

  • SENIORS: carving a pumpkin for Halloween

HALLOWEEN PARTY THIS WEDNESDAY 30/10

We’re having a HALLOWEEN PARTY on Wednesday from 4pm to 5:30pm, with all sorts of ghoulish treats and tricks! Make a spider mask with us… Parents are welcome to join us.

  • BAKING CLUB: Kids baked an amazing original Pretzels. They were very creative with the shapes though…

Term 4 Week 1 - Cultural Week and Spring HP

HIVE NEWS & PARENT REMINDERS::

MINI EXCURSIONS - FESTIVILION:

The Hive have been invited to participate in The Sea Dragon Project, a community arts project that will be held at Bondi Pavilion as part of Festivilion.

Festivilion, is an event being coordinated by the Friends of Bondi Pavilion and supported by Waverley Council, to celebrate our community, creativity and the Pavilion.

The Hive kids are invited to create sea themed artwork to exhibit in the Pavilion. They are also invited to participate in a twilight lantern parade, as part of the formal celebration of the event. Workshops have been scheduled in the weeks prior to the event, where the kids can make their lanterns and other artwork.

The kids will have an opportunity to work on large scale artworks at the Pavilion. These will be exhibited for a few days in the foyer of the Pavilion. On festival day, there will be acoustic music performances and drop in art workshops underneath their marine installation. The lantern parade will begin beneath the lighted marine sculptures. Face paint and costumes will naturally be encouraged for this auspicious event.

We hatched chicks and ducklings! The most popular program for the kids. Kids love animals and observing how the little chickens and ducklings come to this world was such a great experience.

CLUB NEWS ::

  • The kids that wanted to, were free this week to make PLACARDS and signs for the CLIMATE STRIKE on Friday. It was amazing to hear the older kids explaining to the younger ones what it’s all about, answer their questions and also discuss with the Educators what we can all do better, to help the planet. An inspiring bunch of kids!

  • In ART & CRAFT we created DRAGONS EGGS, using all sorts of fabulous materials to create beautiful designs on the outside.

  • We didn’t let the weather rain on our parade this week, with lots of activities in the Hall, dance, magnets, group games and even a sneaky bit of SOCCER when the weather allowed it.

  • We also got cosy in the Hive room with loads of activities, some amazing HULA HOOP action and lots of time in the READING corner

She recently graduated with a Masters in Social Work & Dance, and has just secured her first graduate job in youth mental health. Go well Bek, we know you’re going to be great at what you do. CLUB NEWS ::

JUNIORS :

  • In ART & CRAFT we experimented with glue and glitter, moulded around balloons, to make our own bowls. Lots of exploring and discovering along the way, and some cool bowls too!

  • We also built on the spring theme, by creating some beautiful, bright recycled butterflies , birds and flowers - check them out on the walls!

  • Y3s joined Ethan for their new WOODWORK CLUB this week - the group will work on a single project until the end of term. We look forward to seeing their creations!

  • In SCIENCE we experimented with different ways to make a parachute to work in the spring breezes. So many of curious minds at work here….

  • We were outside a lot this week, and loved it. SOCCER, BASKETBALL AND HANDBALL were all popular with our younger ones

SENIORS :

  • This week we launched Edie’s WIRE-WORKING CLUB - a 3 week project that our older kids will love

  • Our Thursday EXCURSION was popular as ever - thanks Edie & Bek for giving the kids the opportunity to spread their wings a little

  • We had lots of requests for VOLLEYBALL and DODGEBALL this week - so much fun for kids of all ages.

Term 3 Week 7 - Recycling

PLACEMENT STUDENT
We were recently asked whether we’d host a prac student - and we said yes! Elisa is studying at Bedford College for her Diploma in School Age Care, and will be with us on Monday and Friday afternoons for the rest of term. She is not in ratio, rather she’s observing and assisting our team in various areas around the centre. We’re proud to provide this service to the community and help prepare the next generation of Educators!

PARENT REMINDERS ::

  • Evacuation drills were re-scheduled due to bad weather. They will take place on Tuesday Week 8 (10th Sep) and we’ll email you asking to avoid a certain window for pickup - thanks in advance for your cooperation.

CLUB NEWS ::

  • We focused on recycling this week - thank you to all parents who brought in their materials for us to use. Please VOTE for your favourite RECYCLED HOUSE/CASTLE in the Hive room!

  • In ART & CRAFT, the kids loved making their own paint by recycling old, dry markers. They created some beautiful artworks… We also designed some fabulous home-made pots, using old milk containers!

  • In EXPLORE & DISCOVER we were inspired by the suggestion box to make PUTTY - and the kids loved it! Thanks Euge for getting all the materials together and making it possible.

  • Ethan’s fantastic WOODWORK CLUB for seniors finished up this week. The Y3s were a tad envious - so from next week we’ll start a course for them on Tuesday afternoons!

  • Next for the Seniors is a WIRE-WORKING CLUB, also starting next week

  • In the HIVE ROOM our kids enjoyed a mix of activities - magnets, indoor archery, and lots of puzzle-time!!

The weather was not conducive this week, so we’ll let you know about this term’s re-scheduled emergency evacuation drills. Thanks in advance for your cooperation to ensure all kids get to take part in this importance practice.

GLOBAL CLIMATE STRIKE - 20th September
The Hive sent out a call to action this week, relating to the Global Climate Strike on 20th September. This communication was made independently, on behalf of The Hive’s parent body - the P&C Committee.
Use of the database and the call to action were supported at the recent P&C meeting and we’ve had many positive email responses from our parents. We also had an email from someone in Queensland, calling us ‘nuf nufs’ and offering to educate us in all matters climate. If anyone is keen - please let me know :-)

CLUB NEWS ::

  • Can’t tell you too much about ART & CRAFT activities, as most of them involve surprises for that special someone on Sunday. So for now, shhhhh - and happy Sunday to you all!

  • We dabbled with physics and explored the laws of gravity this week when we made catapults in EXPLORE & DISCOVER!

  • We don’t let the rain get in the way of a good time - and our SPORTS clubs have been busy all week, grabbing outdoor time whenever they can. It’s great to see our younger bees learning from the older kids how to play HANDBALL. We’ve had lots of takers for VOLLEYBALL this week too - getting ready for summer on the beach…!

  • We ran some special bad weather activities like COMPUTER CLUB and MOVIE TIME. Cosy indoor time for the kids, and a nice change every now and again…

  • We’ve loved watching a regular weekly match establish itself on the front grass - every Wednesday 3:30-4pm you can find the Y3s taking on the seniors at RUGBY! Good sports all round.

  • In BAKING CLUB the kids made lovely chocolate cupcakes with a healthy touch of beetroot. Did you know that part of baking club is a quick education on the ingredients we use?

  • The kids continue to love MOVIE CLUB with Ziggy. Our NEW IPADS are getting great use, and the kids are learning and discovering more each week - the little ones too!

CLUB NEWS ::

  • We enjoyed celebrating BOOK WEEK and we loved all the kids’ fantastically creative costumes and the stories behind them!!

  • In ART & CRAFT we built on the book theme - creating our own comic books and pencil cases

  • Our MORNING CREW got busy building their own slides with our colourful blocks, and had lots of giggles tumbling down it!

  • We continued growing the CRYSTALS in Science Cub, and our gardeners were also busy growing - GRASS HEADS!

  • In sports we loved exploring the various new equipment, and had some really cool SOCCER competitions again this week. HANDBALL is as popular as ever and the kids are loving having a whole new batch of balls to bounce around

  • We really got the Seniors involved in their own excursion, taking them to Woolies on the way to the beach, to buy the ingredients to make their own BBQ afternoon tea. They behaved so well, and did The Hive and BBPS proud!

MOVIE CLUB
A special note: The wonderful Ziggy launched MOVIE CLUB last week, and it was just as popular this week. To begin with, they’re talking genres, scripts, and the various roles involved in making movies. Well done ZIGGY and SETH for developing this fabulous new club!

CALL OUT FOR OLD CLOTHES!
We’re working together with the lovely Kate in the garden. We’re going to make SCARECROWS, and we’d love your help - any old clothes which our scarecrows can wear will be gratefully received. Please bring them in before week 7 - thank you!

Thank you to all our parents for supporting us through the process. And a huge fist bump to all our Hive staff for showing our very best side to the assessor. We know we passed, so it’s business as usual whist we wait for the detailed outcome…

CLUB NEWS ::

  • SCIENCE WEEK!! We got busy making CRYSTALS and kicking off some SEED SPROUTING this week. Well done Isla for watering them every day. And our little engineers created JET PACKS out of recycled materials!

  • We had great fun with SOCCER on Monday - in a great Juniors v Seniors match! Seniors came out on top 3-1, but the Juniors held their own and the seniors were really encouraging. So good to see. Players of the match were OLLIE H Y1 and LEO M, Y1 for great teamwork and mad skills. Rematch soon…!

  • In BAKING CLUB, the kids made delicious blackberry & feta mini ‘hand pies’ with Mia’s help. Totally yummy, and healthy too!

  • More fun with the new ARCHERY sets this week - such a big hit!

  • Our SENIORS loved getting started on their woodwork projects - making all sorts of stuff from balsa wood. Good work, chippies!
