T2 Weeks 7-8

👋 LIVE FROM THE HIVE … 👋

CALL OUT‼️ TSHIRT PRINTING

We’re refreshing our Hive uniforms! We're looking for anyone in the school community who could help us with either t-shirt supply or t-shirt printing. Please reach out to Coach Matt here.

SCHOOL OPENING HOURS

Just a friendly reminder that the school does not open its gates to children until 830AM, when they have teachers on duty to supervise play onsite. Please don’t send your children before this time, as the gates are closed and there is no one supervising outdoor play.

WARM LAYERS

Another reminder to please remember to pack a jumper in your child's bag each day. The afternoons are reaaally getting cold, especially during our 5pm fruit time, and a warm layer goes a long way in keeping the kids comfortable and happy.

Reminder: if you are missing a jumper, head to the hive room to check out our lost property pile!

TSHIRT DESIGN ACTIVITY

As mentioned, our Hive uniforms are getting a refresh — and the kids have already been hard at work bringing the new design to life! 🐝

We had the privilege of working with Uncle Gene, a school dad and local cultural advisor, to create a meaningful Indigenous design for our new look. This week, the children painted the three totems of the local area, the grouper, whiting, and stingray, using colours drawn from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags. It was a wonderful, hands-on experience, and the results are absolutely beautiful.

We can't wait to share the finished uniform with you all!

DID YOU KNOW…? 🐚🦀

After many months of patiently waiting for hermit crabs to fill the tank we so lovingly prepared for them, we've made the tough call to go in a different direction with our Hive pet. As many of you have probably heard (the kids certainly have! 😄), there is a nationwide hermit crab shortage, and our patience has finally worn thin.

So, we are very excited to announce that we'll be welcoming stick insects into the Hive instead! 🌿

Watch this space for updates on our newest little residents!

✨ STAFF UPDATES ✨

Lucia

After three and a half incredible years, our wonderful Lucia is moving on from The Hive. What a journey it's been, starting as a casual and quickly finding her place in the Kindy team, before stepping up as our beloved Kindy Lead. Lucia has brought so much heart to everything she does. Her warmth, her smile, and her calming presence (not to mention her invaluable nursing knowledge!) have made The Hive a better place every single day. Looch, you will be so deeply missed, but we couldn't be more excited to watch you step into your next chapter as a nurse. Go show the world what we already know!

🐌 OUR GARDEN 🌿

We have been working on creating the strawberry wall, planting strawberry plants in pots ready to hang on the fence. We planted different varieties of strawberries including Alpine, Melba, Adina, and Tioga. Once they grow we can do a taste test to see which one is the most delicious! All our hard work now will pay off in the warmer months when we are picking lots of ripe strawberries.

In garden baking club we made savoury muffins with carrot, parsley, and cheese. We have lots of parsley growing at the moment, feel free to stop by and pick some up for your dinner!

We have been keenly observing the ladybug lifecycle in the garden. On the eggplant plant we found eggs, larvae, pupae, and adult ladybugs! They like to eat the powdery mildew on the leaves. Did you know a group of ladybugs is called a ‘loveliness’?
