Welcome, Jerome! 👋🏼
We’re excited to welcome Jerome to The Hive team, joining us all the way from Cairns! Jerome is currently studying his Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and is already a hit with the children, who are keen to learn more about his homeland, the Philippines. Please make sure to say hi and give Jerome a warm Hive welcome if you see him around!
Farewell, Claire! 💛
We’re also sadly saying goodbye to our lovely Claire, who has been part of The Hive team since early 2025. Claire has brought so much fun, warmth and positive energy to The Hive, and has built some wonderful relationships with our children, families and team along the way.
We’re so grateful for everything Claire has contributed during her time with us and know she will be very missed around The Hive. We wish her all the very best for what comes next and hope she knows she’ll always be part of our Hive family! 🐝💛

📅 DECEMBER/JANURARY CLOSURE DATES:
A quick reminder that communications were sent to families on the 27 AUGUST regarding The Hive’s December/January closure dates. Please have a read if you haven’t already and make a note of the important dates.
⏰ TERM 4 MORNING SESSION UPDATE:
From the start of Term 4, we’re making a small change to our morning session times, to better support our parent community. From T4 Wk1, the morning session will run from 6:45am–8:45am, with all children released at 8:45am to enjoy some free play with their friends before school starts. More detailed information will be sent to families soon, so keep an eye out!

We’re introducing a new Hive Spotlight section to our newsletter! Each fortnight, one of our staff members will share a little story or standout moment from around The Hive — whether it’s something special from an activity, a Hive Committee moment, or simply something that made us smile. 🐝💛
🎤 THIS FORTNIGHT’S SPOTLIGHT — THE HIVE TALENT SHOW! 🕺
Claire shares:
Monday’s Talent Show was definitely a highlight! The children had 15 minutes to practise a dance either in a group or on their own before taking to the stage to perform for everyone. It was so lovely to see how kind and supportive everyone was, cheering and clapping for each other throughout the show! 👏🏼
Otto, Marta, Olivia, Jocka and Fleur put together a fantastic gymnastics and dance routine, while Sash showed us his best Michael Jackson moves with a great performance to Thriller. Hughie and Otto really had everyone laughing with their breakdancing routine to Breathe by The Prodigy! 😂
What stood out most was the amazing confidence, enthusiasm and sportsmanship shown by everyone. At the end, even those who didn’t place were genuinely supportive of their friends who did. It was such a great example of our Hive kids encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s achievements. 🥹👏🏼

We’re wrapping up theme for the Term “Around the World”! Here’s what the kids have been up to this past fortnight!
ART & CRAFT: Oil Pastels, Watercolour Creations, Hamma Bead Designs, Nature Painting and Hot air ballon and Ski craft!
BAKING CLUB: Carrot Cake Muffins, Pancakes, Green Smoothies, Roast Potatos!
SPORTS: Lots of Soccer, Basketball, Soccer Shootout, Netball, Basketball, Vouche Volley and Dodgeball!

🌿🌿🌿🌿IN THE GARDEN…🌿🌿🌿🌿
Hey guys Nelly here!
At the moment we are harvesting the leafy greens that have grown over winter, including parsley, kale, and rainbow silverbeet. We are learning different methods of sowing seeds, including directly into the garden, into toilet paper roll planters, into punnets, and into seed snails.
Mud kitchen🪣
We now have a mud kitchen in our garden! The kids have enjoyed making perfumes out of different scented leaves growing in the garden including lemon balm, pineapple sage, and mountain marigold.
Rosemary roast potatoes🥔
We have been harvesting fresh rosemary from the garden to make rosemary roast potatoes! We learnt about knife safety, cutting the potatoes carefully, before tossing them in olive oil and seasoning with salt and rosemary. The crispy potatoes warm out of the oven have been a hit!
Stick Insects🪲
The stick insects have had their staff headshots taken and sure know how to work the camera! We have been learning how to hold them safely and gently by letting them be the ones to walk onto you, rather than picking them up. Some brave kids have been nervous to hold them but faced their fears and had a go!

The holidays are almost here! A few important reminders before we kick off:
📋 Fully Booked Days:
If a day is showing as fully booked, you can still join the waitlist by selecting ‘Request a Space’ in the app. We do see movement in bookings, so it’s definitely worth putting in a request!
🚌 Excursion Permissions:
Please make sure you have completed your child’s EXCURSION PERMISSIONS. Unfortunately, children cannot attend an excursion without completed permission, so please get these submitted before the holidays.
🚨 IMPORTANT – MONDAY 12 OCTOBER:
A reminder that Monday 12 October is still part of our Holiday Program and is not a school day. If you require care, please book as soon as possible as we’re almost full!

🐝 A big congratulations to Eddie in Kindy, our Little Bee of the Week! Eddie is always willing to lend a helping hand, especially when it comes to packing up, and consistently shows kindness and respect towards his friends and staff. We love seeing his helpful attitude around The Hive — keep it up, Eddie! 💛🐝
