Term 3 W7 - 8
/👋 👋 LIVE FROM THE HIVE …
☀️ WARMER WEATHER REMINDER…
With the weather starting to warm up and the children spending more time outdoors (hurrah!), an important reminder that no hat means no play! Please pack your child’s has a hat (with their name clearly marked) every day, so they can safely enjoy all our outdoor activities and free play. It’s also a great time to start remembering water bottles ☀️
📅 DECEMBER/JANURARY CLOSURE DATES:
A quick reminder that communications were sent to families on the 27 AUGUST regarding The Hive’s December/January closure dates. Please have a read if you haven’t already and make a note of the important dates.
🎤 SPEAK OFFS!
A big well done to everyone who took part in the classroom Speak-Offs this week! We offered children the opportunity to practise their speeches at The Hive and were so impressed by the confidence and effort they showed. It was great to see everyone supporting and encouraging each other — amazing work!
⏰ TERM 4 MORNING SESSION UPDATE:
From the start of Term 4, we’re making a small change to our morning session times, to better support our parent community. From T4 Wk1, the morning session will run from 6:45am–8:45am, with all children released at 8:45am to enjoy some free play with their friends before school starts. More detailed information will be sent to families soon, so keep an eye out!
🪲 OUR STICK INSECTS HAVE NAMES!🪲
Our four newest Hive members officially have names! The children all had the chance to have their say by dropping their name ideas into our suggestion box, making sure everyone could get involved in choosing the perfect names. After all the suggestions were collected, we’re excited to introduce Zappo (F), Stickolas Cage (M), Sticky (F) and Izzy (F)! Make sure to pop by and say hello! 🌿🪲
🐠 FREE FISH TANK!
Our old fish tank is looking for a new home! We’re offering it free to any Hive family who would like it. If you’re interested in giving it a new home, please have a chat with one of our staff members — first in, best dressed! 🐟

🌿🌿🌿🌿IN THE GARDEN…🌿🌿🌿🌿
Hey guys Nelly here!
Spring is in the air! We have been getting lots of seeds into the greenhouse and into the garden beds including cucumber, papaya, passionfruit, tamarillo, sunflower, spinach, potato, zinnias, marigolds, and garlic chives.
We made a cubby using bamboo sticks, twine, and snowpea seedlings. As the snowpeas grow, the cubby will have living green walls (with lots of snowpeas to snack on!). Galah is holding down the fort until it's ready!
👩🍳🪲THREATENED SPECIES BAKE OFF:
Some keen bakers participated in the Threatened Species Bake Off, an annual baking competition that draws attention to endangered animals in Australia. Entries are judged on their likeness to the creature and their creativity. We made ‘Lord Howe Island Stick Insect’ breadsticks! These stick insects were once thought to be extinct, until some were rediscovered in 2001! They could be the world's rarest insect, with only 20-30 left in the wild. Our entry has been submitted, fingers crossed!
🥬🥤GREEN SMOOTHIES:
In baking club we blended up some green smoothies using kale and mint from the garden. We learnt about the ‘cut and come again’ harvesting method, where you just pick the larger leaves from the outer layers, allowing the plant to continue growing from the centre. We will be harvesting the kale for a long time to come!
