T1 Weeks 4-5

👋 LIVE FROM THE HIVE … 👋

HAVE YOU SEEN…? PARENT GREETER ROLE

You may have noticed that our iPad for evening sign-outs has moved to a new location, and we wanted to let you know why.

We’ve recently introduced a staff member at pickup time who will be available to chat with you, answer any questions, or hear any suggestions you may have. Our aim is simply to ensure there is always a friendly, approachable face available if you need support, clarification, or a quick conversation at the end of the day. We value open communication with our families and hope this small change helps strengthen those everyday connections!

XPLOR PLAYGROUND POSTS

We’re so excited to share that we’ve officially started using the Xplor Playground Posts feature!

Over the past two weeks, we’ve begun sharing special snapshots of your child’s day, including photos, learning moments, and little glimpses into their play and projects here at The Hive. We hope you’re enjoying this extra window into their world! We are always looking for feedback, so if you have something to share about anything at all, you can drop it into our suggestions box.

Just a friendly reminder that posts can be viewed directly in your Xplor app. To make sure you don’t miss anything, please check that your notifications for Xplor are switched on. You’ll get a buzz whenever your child is tagged in a post. Don’t worry, you’ll only be able to view posts where your own child has been tagged. As always, if you’ve selected “no photos” or opted out of Xplor permissions, your preferences are being respected.

EMERGENCY DRILLS

This week we carried out both our lockdown and evacuation drills. These practice drills help ensure that children and staff feel safe, prepared, and confident in the event of a real emergency, and we are required to complete them once a term.

Thank you for your understanding and support while we completed these important procedures!

👨‍🍳 🎨 🎲 WHAT HAVE THE KIDS BEEN UP TO? 🏏 🧸 🧪

We’ve been leaning fully into the OUR GROWING GARDEN theme, across all of our activity clubs! Here’s what we’ve been up to this past fortnight:

ART&CRAFTS: beaded caterpillars, silly slugs, paper plate gardens, toilet roll mushrooms, accordion snakes, DIY bookmarks, Lunar New Year envelopes & colouring club and oil pastel butterflies!
SPORTS: european handball, hoop flip, cricket, survival tag, basketball, snatch, GIANT skipping, kick tennis, jack in the pack, bin ball AND a heated scissor/paper/rock battle!
EXPLORE & DISCOVER: canva posters (to invite local frogs to our frog pond), competed in a spaghetti/marshmallow tower building comp and created potions at the adventure playground!
BAKING CLUB: brownie cupcakes & raspberry muffins!
SENIOR CLUB (Y3+): we had our first 2 meetings for the creation of a SNR LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE, and played lots of Blooket

🏖️ HOLIDAY PROGRAM 🏖️

We are thrilled to announce that Holiday Program bookings will open next Thursday, 5th March!! We’ll send out a notification as soon as bookings go live, so keep an eye on your inbox and make sure your notifications for Xplor are switched on.

Please note: Early bird pricing will be available until midnight on Sunday, 22nd March. After this date, please add $10 to the prices listed on the calendars.

🐝 BEES OF THE WEEK 🐝

Ava, Jarvis, Rosemary (Y5)

For being incredible role models and helpers with our new kindies at all times of the day. These three truly are going above and beyond to make sure that our newest bees feel welcome and settled into their new routines at the hive.

Keep it up superstars!

Liam (Y3)

Well done, Liam, for being an all-round fantastic Bee! You consistently show beautiful manners and are always ready to listen and follow instructions. Your positive attitude and respectful behaviour make our hive a better place every day.

Way to go Liam!

🐌 OUR GARDEN 🌿

Our worms have arrived and are settling into their new home in the worm cafe. Soon they’ll be happily munching on fruit and veggie scraps from afternoon tea, and in return we’ll be rewarded with worm castings to nourish our garden soil. Some kids have even bravely held a worm (or 5!).

We also planted a pomegranate tree. We improved our sandy soil with our homemade compost (see photo below!). The kids dug the hole, loaded up the wheelbarrow, mixed in the compost, then carefully planted and mulched the tree. It may be a few years before we’re picking our own pomegranates, but as the saying goes, “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now”!

In baking club, we used fresh herbs straight from the garden to make herby breadsticks. We picked rosemary, sage and thyme and shaped our dough into all sorts of fun creations like snails, sharks, bunnies, letters and hearts.
