SPRING HOLIDAYS 2026

🌸 SPRING HOLIDAY PROGRAM 🌸

It’s been a buzzing Spring Holiday Program at The Hive! We’ve packed the past two weeks with exciting excursions, creative activities and plenty of adventures. We kicked things off with some MINUTE-TO-WIN-IT GAMES and MOVIE CLUB, explored the awesome new playground at GUNYAMA PLAY PARK, tested our skills at HOLE IN ONE before getting stuck into our famous BAKING CLUB, and welcomed NSW AFL for a day of footy skills and drills! We also got creative with CRAFTERNOON, made our own DIY KEYCHAINS, and teamed up with B&B HIGHWAY to build a buzzing beehive and bee hotel for our garden.

Week two brought even more fun! We got our skate on with CONCRETE SKATE, built epic forts with GIANT CUBBIES, Uncle Gene visited us and we explored the outdoors to learn about the land, local plants and Aboriginal culture, and headed to the Ritz Cinema to watch STITCH HEAD with popcorn in hand! We also showed off our talents at the TALENT SHOW, enjoyed some well-deserved pampering at SPA DAY, and finished the holidays with an epic INFLATABLES & CLAY PLAY day!

We also had lots of time in the GARDEN… Find an update from Nelly below!

It’s been a huge couple of weeks filled with laughter, creativity, new experiences and, as always, some incredible Hive memories. 🐝💛 Check out some photos below to see what we’ve been up to!

And as always - be sure to check our LOST PROPERTY pile in the Hive room. At the end of week one, we’ll donate stuff to our spares box, or give away to charity.

GARDEN UPDATE🌿🌿

Pollinators with Planting Seeds🌱🪴

We had some special visitors from Planting Seeds come to teach us about pollinators! We found out that bees aren’t the only pollinator, but also birds, butterflies, moths, bats, insects, and even the wind! We got our hands dirty making nests out of clay and sand for blue banded bees to lay their eggs in. Blue banded bees have been spotted before in our garden, so hopefully we will be able to observe them using their new nests! We will also be getting our very own native stingless bee hive in our Hive garden in the coming weeks, keep your eyes peeled!

Baking Club👩‍🍳🥣

In baking club we baked some saltbush soda bread, using dried saltbush from our garden. We also made a compound butter using parsley, rosemary, saltbush, native thyme and native oregano and spread it on our slices warm from the oven - too good!

We also had a go making kale chips. We washed, dried, and ripped up the kale leaves, then lightly coated them in olive oil with a sprinkle of salt. Once baked they were crispy and crunchy and a fun way to enjoy leafy greens.

The ‘Share What’s Spare’ Stall🧺🥬

You might have seen a table set up at pick up time with free fresh produce and seeds collected from the Hive garden! When we have a bountiful harvest, we will ‘share what’s spare’ with our Hive families so they get the opportunity to take some home and use it! The majority of our produce is eaten in the garden during garden club, or used in baking club, but the Share What’s Spare Stall will be popping up now and then when we have more than we need. Keep an eye out!
