CLUB NEWS::
This week BAKING CLUB was extremely popular with the kindies! They made raisin bread and learned about all the different ingredients.
ART & CRAFT CLUB celebrated summer and friendship this week, making bracelets, feather art and using lots of glitter! The children are kindly donating some of their works to help decorate our new Hive room, so keep your eyes peeled for your little person’s handiwork!
Our new MAGNET TOYS are a massive hit and we’re seeing some very creative and ingenious designs and constructions!

NEXT WEEK::
SKATE SCHOOL has been opened to Y2. If your little one is keen, please sign the permission forms. Thanks to Ziggy and Seth for helping the little ones to learn the ropes in this cool club!

PARENT REMINDERS::
Please make sure your kids bring their hats to school. It’s especially important during the hot summer months.
Equally, on the cooler days, they need an extra layer - please check the weather every day.
If you’d like to know what the kids are eating when they’re at The Hive, please check out our daily menu. And remember, every meal is accompanied by fresh chopped veggies.

The new (since July 18) Child Care Subsidy (CCS) operates within an updated framework. One of the new parameters is detailed in this extract from the Department of Human Services' website:

“If your child has not attended child care for 8 continuous weeks, we’ll cancel your enrolment details in our system. Read about what you need to do if we cancel your enrolment details.”

If this happens to your account, please contact Becklyn on 02 988 2651 as your first action.

You can check your CCS enrolment status in your account, under the Child Details section in ‘Family’. If it shows anything other than ‘Active’, please contact Becklyn.

CLUB NEWS::
There was a lot of LOVE in The Hive this week, with various Valentine-related craft activities. The youngest ones were helped by the older children to write their messages which was just beautiful to see.
The lovely new Kindys also enjoyed their first BAKING CLUB this week. They made pizza, using just two simple ingredients for the base, and they LOVED it! The Seniors even tried a bit and gave all our little chefs the thumbs up!
Seniors have been desperate to make slime again, so we had some happy faces in EXPLORE & DISCOVER club this week, whilst our younger children got very busy making mud paint!
SPORTS CLUBS have been popular, despite this week’s heat - with lots of eager participants for HOCKEY, SOCCER & WHEELS DAY (which is booked out!).
We also played lots of WATER GAMES this week, to help everyone deal with the heat… aaaahhhhhh

Welcome to Daniel, who’s just joined the team. A talented sports and soccer coach, he has a ton of experience working with primary aged children, both here and in his native Chile. He has a real passion for keeping kids active, energised and engaged and we look forward to seeing him in action!

Our NEW HIVE ROOM is proving a very popular space: the children love to chill and read in the quiet corner, play with the new (very popular) magnet sets or lego, or build dens using the soft mats.

CLUB NEWS::
In BAKING CLUB this week, the kids made delicious apple cinnamon cake and next week they’ll be busy making raisin bread - fabulous little chefs at The Hive!
Our SPORTS CLUBS are in full swing - the kids had the best time playing all sorts of games such as DODGEBALL and TOUCH RUGBY. All the new Kindys did a great job of listening and learning the rules.
The creative bees in ART & CRAFT CLUB made puffy paint artworks this week which are no doubt adorning the fridges of Bondi as we speak!
Our first SKATE SCHOOL was extremely popular with our older kids and we look forward to some wheely good fun all term!

2019 Term 1 Week 1

WELCOME BACK!!

Happy 2019 everyone, and welcome to our brand new Hive room! We’ve worked hard over the holidays to get the space ready and the feedback so far is overwhelmingly positive!

TEAM NEWS::
The lovely Lenka is getting ready for maternity leave, and Edie - our Child & Family Liaison Lead - has stepped into Lenka’s role of Nominated Supervisor. Edie is supported by Kathy and Eugenia in Supervisor roles and by Ellie and Jara behind the scenes. Lenka will also be here with us for a few more weeks.


NEW KINDYS::

  • Welcome to all our new Kindy friends! We look forward to getting to know those of you we didn’t meet during the holidays.

  • In your first week, we’ll offer extra care from 0900-0930 and 1430-1500, whilst you have a shorter day and for the whole of this first year, we’ll manage your transitions between class and Hive..

  • Please remember your family code and password when signing in and out.

  • You can change your password to one of your choice: Log in > User Menu > Change Password

NOTES FOR ALL PARENTS::

  • We/re a SUN SAFE centre, which means hats & sunscreen for outdoor play this term.

  • We have a two baskets of LOST PROPERTY from Holiday Program, just outside the Hive room. Please check through them this week. After Friday, all remaining items will be recycled, donated or thrown away.

  • And while we’re checking - please look at home for any stray MISSING HIVE TOYS. We lost a few toys and games during the holidays, and it’s great if they can please be returned for all our children to enjoy.

  • A reminder that children should NOT BRING TOYS OR DEVICES to The Hive (or to school)

  • SKATE SCHOOL will be running every Thursday starting this week. It’s open to Yrs 3-6, and we’ll send out online permission forms soon, which must be completed before the kids will be allowed to join.

  • if you child has EXTRA CURRICULAR activities during their Hive session, you must let us know. Please email bookings@thehivebondi.com.au. Your child must always check in at The Hive room before going off to their activity.

Term 4 Week 9

CHRISTMAS PARTY::
Our party on Thursday was a huge success, with lots of extra bookings and almost the whole team on hand to help out. Thanks for coming along!!
The kids decorated gingerbread biscuits, made loads of amazing Christmas craft (ready for pick-up outside KP) and played fun Xmas-themed games like pin the nose on the reindeer! Thanks to everyone who helped make it such a huge success and to Lenka for organising everything. Feedback from parents has been wonderful, and some of you stayed on at the craft stations to help out with the activities, which was lovely.

CLUB NEWS::
In EXPLORE & DISCOVER club this week the younger children were totally engrossed in their TIE DYE MILK experiment in the back playground. The Seniors made their own BATH BOMBS with Edie - which they loved, and have asked to do again very soon!
ART & CRAFT focused all week on Christmas: reverse scratch baubles, snowmen, ornaments & decorations!
BAKING CLUB were busy all week making the gingerbread cookies, ready for the Christmas party!

HOLIDAY PROGRAM:
Next week is the final week of term! Mon-Wed are school days, then there are two days of Holiday Program Thu/Fri before we close down for a two week break (yay!). If you haven’t already - book in for 20th and 21st - spots are selling out fast.

STAFF CHANGES::
At the end of the year, we bid a fond farewell to Billy, Ziggy and Charlie (who’s off to New York to study fine art!) We’ve loved having you on the team and we’ll miss you all.
Lenka will start her maternity leave early in Term 1 and Edie, Kathy and Eugenia will be on hand to spread the load.

Term 4 Week 8

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::

  • The web server is back up and running (phew!) and Holiday Program bookings are open and disappearing fast!I

  • You can find the calendars here on the website and they’re also pinned up on the Hive room door.

  • We’ll have lots of water play to cool down during those hot weeks, so please throw some spare clothes in the kids’ bags

CLUB NEWS::
In ART & CRAFT Seniors made some fab Christmas decorations - sequinned baubles and sand art. Our younger creatives made bead ornaments, paper plate Christmas trees, and Christmas playdough with cinnamon and cloves!
In SCIENCE CLUB we saw the kids become fascinated by how the different ingredients reacted together to make FIZZY POTIONS! Next week, we’ll be making bath bombs (perfect as Christmas pressies!)
BAKING CLUB saw the Juniors making chocolate cookies and our Seniors created the ever-popular sushi!
In Sports Club we’ve seen VOLLEYBALL become more and more popular for all age groups. We’ve also seen our BEYBLADE CLUB become popular with more girls now too.
In the Hive room CHILLOUT ZONE, some Y1s created their own “video games” similar to the old Ataris, using old CDs, DVD and other recycled materials. THANK YOU to everyone who sends in their old bits and bobs for us to use in our creative/construction sessions.
The renovated PLAY EQUIPMENT in the back playground is super popular with the kids. Thank you School!

RE-ENROLMENTS::
Don’t forget to re-enrol for next year. The sooner the better (and it’s one less thing to remember through the holidays!)
If you know new families enrolling at BBPS next year, please remind them to enrol for The Hive too. Merci!

Term 4 Week 7

CLUB NEWS::
The kids loved making MARBLE CAKE in Baking Club, with all age groups mucking in and helping one another out.
SCIENCE CLUB really enjoyed the Walking Water experiment this week, using food colouring, paper towels and water. The kids’ little projects are on display in the new Hive room. It was really cool to see the results the next day.
The CHILL OUT zone has been busy with lots of building and construction projects, and the children have been so good at helping pack away. Good on you, kids!

KIDS’ NEWS::
>
Thanks to all the children who are really listening and doing the right thing when asked to WASH HANDS before food. Hygiene is important, and helps keep us safe from germs.
> You can start getting excited about the HIVE XMAS PARTY on THURSDAY WEEK 9! We’ll have tonnes of fun, food, games and all things Christmassy. Make sure you’re booked in that day, and parents - you’re welcome to join us too!!

Term 4 Week 6

CLUB NEWS::
SCIENCE CLUB returned on Monday with a lovely mix of juniors & seniors who interacted really positively together - so good to see! The children loved seeing how the combination of different ingredients created a cool volcano explosion!
BEYBLADE CLUB remains popular and the children are learning how to be patient, wait their turn and sharing beyblades. Rufus in Kindy was particularly helpful in making sure the club ran smoothly - Go Rufus!
Our reminder of the NO TOYS FROM HOME rule, means the children are finding many other ways to entertain themselves, including using their IMAGINATIONS to make fabulous creations out of all the materials we have in The Hive.
Some of our YrKs made a wonderful LEGO MAZE and used marbles to play with it during their chill time in the Hive. Their great constructions are on show on the Hive room shelf next to the window.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::
Last day of Term 4 is Wed 19 Dec.
Holiday Program will run Thu 20 & Fri 21 Dec and then w/c 7th, 14th, 21st Jan and Tue 29 Jan.
First day of Term 1 2019 is Wed 30 Jan (apart from Kindys who start the following week).
HP bookings will open in Week 8.

Term 4 Week 5

CLUB NEWS::
SENIORS’ KITCHEN on Fridays goes from strength to strength. The older kids are learning how to make more healthy choices and picking up practical life skills along the way.
Our CHILL OUT ZONE was actually a Hive of activity this week, with team drawing and brick building activities taking place - very popular with our Y3 crowd.
BAKING CLUB days are swapping around to give all year groups a fair chance.
In ART & CRAFT club, our younger kids loved making magic potions in recycled jars.

NEXT WEEK::
Our Volcano Explosion experiment returns next week by popular demand. Boom!!

PARENT REMINDERS::
On Tuesday this week, we had ZERO missing kids, and we were able to complete roll calls with ZERO non-notification penalties. Just goes to show - it can be done! So thanks to all the parents who are on board with the process of telling us when their child is going to miss a booked session.

Term 4 Week 4

CLUB NEWS::
SCIENCE CLUB We experiment using toilet paper to measure and test absorbency. The children enjoy to get messy and see the results of our cool project. Next week we will create a volcano explosion. 
ART & CRAFT CLUB The girls were busy creating different outfits and pet houses with the recycling material and cloth.
WHEELS DAY is on Thursdays. Remember to bring your OWN WHEELS and HELMETS, and park up at the bike racks
BEYBLADE CLUB is the newest hit at The Hive. Running twice a week, it’s popular with kids from all years, and we’ve bought everything we need to make sure everyone gets a turn.

NEXT WEEK::
We will be baking cookies all week and having a few rounds of dodgeball. Seniors will be cooking frittata on Friday and we are creating some mythical creations for art and craft!

PARENT REMINDERS::
All our children must wear HATS & SUNSCREEN this term. The UV index is high and we’re a SUNSAFE centre.
Another reminder that children SHOULD NOT BRING THEIR OWN TOYS with them to school or Hive. Our new beyblades and arenas are a huge hit - so the kids can leave their own toys safe at home.
A reminder that our SUGGESTIONS BOX is located by the touchscreen. We love to hear your ideas and feedback, so please don’t be shy!
