Term 4 Week 3

HALLOWEEN PARTY::

The halloween party was a HUGE success! Big shout out to Britt and the seniors for the beautifully spooky cupcakes and well done to everyone who helped with the eyeball jelly (EW!). There were great costumes made and skull and spoon races and Hannah and Kathy did some awesome face painting! We hope everyone had a SPOOK-tacular (sorry) halloween and got a good lolly haul!

CLUB NEWS::

SCIENCE CLUB We made spooky eyeball jelly using lychees and blueberries
ART & CRAFT CLUB we made awesome spooky skeleton creations using ear buds and black cardboard.
WHEELS DAY is on Thursdays. Remember to bring your OWN WHEELS and HELMETS, and park up at the bike racks
BEYBLADE CLUB is the newest hit at The Hive. Running twice a week, it’s popular with kids from all years, and we’ve bought everything we need to make sure everyone gets a turn.

NEXT WEEK::
We will be baking delicious cheesy puffs all week and the seniors will get a chance to make some pottery creations. Fort building will be happening all week in the hive room! And as always- if you want to join in JUST DANCE at any point we strongly encourage it (go on! It’s fun!)

PARENT REMINDERS::
All our children must wear HATS & SUNSCREEN this term. The UV index is high and we’re a SUNSAFE centre.
Another reminder that children SHOULD NOT BRING THEIR OWN TOYS with them to school or Hive. Our new beyblades and arenas are a huge hit - so the kids can leave their own toys safe at home.
A reminder that our SUGGESTIONS BOX is located by the touchscreen. We love to hear your ideas and feedback, so please don’t be shy!

HIVE RE-ENROLMENTS::
Are now open!

Hive NEW Enrolments::

Hive enrolments open WEEK 5 please email enrolments@thehivebondi.com.au for a password or ask the staff in person

Term 4 Week 2

THE BECKLYN WEB SERVER::
The system experienced serious issues for most of this week, meaning many of you couldn’t make or amend bookings when you wanted to. We’re sorry for this inconvenience. Becklyn are aware of the level of disruption and are working towards a solution that can avoid it in future.

CLUB NEWS::

ART & CRAFT CLUB used recycled materials (and imagination!) all week. Thanks to those families that brought in their old boxes, rolls, cartons etc

made clay, usING different colours to make it bright and cool. A large group of our younger kids loved this activity
ART & CRAFT CLUB also used clay to mould different hand shapes and expanded on the SCULPTURES BY THE SEA theme, with the kids creating their own sculptures using clay and recycled materials
WHEELS DAY will be on Thursday. This term we’re running it ourselves, so the kids must bring their own wheels and helmets. We have bought 10 sets of pads, and anyone on skateboards or skates must wear them. Scooters and bikes need helmets only.
BAKING CLUB made chocolate cake and our Seniors’ Kitchen created a couscous dish.

NEXT WEEK::
In Week 2 we’ll celebrate RECYCLING week. PLEASE BRING IN your… egg boxes, small plastic bottles, cereal boxes, cardboard etc etc

PARENT REMINDERS::
Please remember that children SHOULD NOT BRING THEIR OWN TOYS with them to school or Hive. They get easily lost, damaged or ‘borrowed’ and we cannot be responsible for them. We have just invested in some bey blades and arenas, so the kids can play with those and as always, we have so many cool things for them to play. Their toys can stay safe at home!

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::
We’re so excited about all the bookings coming in and we can’t wait to get stuck in to our Holiday Program. It’s looking as though we’ll sell out on several days, so please make your bookings soon - spaces are fulling up quickly.

Term 3 Week 8

CLUB NEWS::
Week 9 will be our FINAL SKATE SCHOOL session. It’s been a huge hit! We’ll run our own version in Term 4 (protection pads provided) so watch this space for more details. The Skater HQ team will be back in Term 1 next year. Yay!
Our own Poppy W suggested the seniors’ BLACK TILES craft activity - it was a huge hit with our older boys and girls. Thanks Poppy!
In EXPLORE & DISCOVER we experimented with cornflour and water - gloopy, messy, inquisitive fun… ;-)
Our little bakers this week made HIVE COOKIES. So much fun and very yummy. Our bigger chefs in SENIORS’ KITCHEN made their own pancakes with homemade jam!
And the fun didn’t stop there: with henna tattoos, recycled art using tubes and eggboxes, sand art and much, much more…

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::
Is filling up fast! Check out the calendars, hop online to book and don’t forget the online PERMISSIONS FORMS for all excursions.

PARENT REMINDERS::
We’re a SUN SMART centre and the weather is warming up, so sunscreen and hats will be compulsory from Week 9 on… If you prefer your child to use their own sunscreen, please make sure it’s packed in their school bag, and that we’re aware.

TERM 3 WEEK 7

HIVE NEWS::
Whilst Edie's on holiday in Weeks 7 & 8, JARA will be running the Hive in the mornings. Please let him know if you have any questions or suggestions.
Our HOLIDAY PROGRAM bookings are now open! Please check out our Junior and Senior calendars and make your bookings ASAP, to avoid missing out.

CLUB NEWS::
Rainy weather meant we had to cancel Monday SCIENCE this week, but instead we enjoyed watching movies in the Hall and Hive room.
In ART & CRAFT we painted bow tie noodles, made spring-themed flowers using various techniques and created butterflies, using recycled materials. So much cool artwork! It's all outside the Hive room, ready to be taken home. We also used the ever-popular MAGIC CLAY to make beautiful flowers with cotton tip stalks. The Kindy & Y1 girls especially loved these activities.
In BAKING CLUB our little chefs made sugar-free scones - make sure you collect yours from the fridge!
Our SPORTS CLUBS were super busy this week: we had almost 40 kids at Skate School, the older kids loved AFL on the front grass, and Billy's Fitness Club is developing quite a loyal following! In Week 8, Rob is offering a free training session with AFL, League and fitness drills and skills on Tuesday afternoon.
Our SENIORS had a ball this week making tie-dye bags with Edie and having henna fun with Laura: both boys and girls loved this activity, and it was great watching them help the Juniors get involved too. In SENIORS' KITCHEN on Friday, they BBQd a vegan burger - learning not only how to cook, but also how delicious a burger can be even without meat!

Term 3 Week 6

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::
Holiday Program bookings will open in Week 7. As usual we have a jam-packed, fun-filled program for you all! Please book early to avoid missing out...

PARENT REMINDERS::
Thanks to everyone who co-operated with us for the EMERGENCY DRILLS last week. We challenged ourselves with the timings of the drills, and gained some good learnings to make next time even smoother.
A reminder that there are two LOST PROPERTY buckets outside the Hive room. Please check these for your missing items. Things do usually turn up...
Our Kindys & Yr1s continue to be SO HELPFUL in the quad when we're clearing up after free play. We're super proud of the teamwork and helpfulness that they're showing us

CLUB NEWS::
We've noticed our new SILK PARACHUTE is bringing children from all ages to play together - this is so lovely to see and our Hive Educators love joining in the fun!
Baking Club this week made the most delicious CHOCOLATE CAKE. Just one question: next time, can they please can they make enough for all the Educators too...?!
FATHERS' DAY was the focus of our crafts this week - scratch magnets, cards, clay craft and picture frames will be gracing many a household around Bondi this weekend. Happy Father's Day to all the amazing dads out there!

Term 3 Week 5

REMINDER::  The kids' safety is our number one priority. Each term we practice emergency drills in the morning and afternoon sessions. This term's drills will be in week 6. You'll receive emails notifying you of when they'll be and asking the you avoid drop off and particularly pick-up, during that window if at all possible. This allows all children and staff to focus fully on becoming familiar with the emergency process.

CLUB NEWS::
Another monumental Skate School session - it's full every week and the kids are having the best time!  We're seeing them get more resilient too: learning to get up, dust off and carry on!
Baking Club made the cutest hedgehog bread this week (or should that be echidna rolls...?!). Week 6 is going to be chocolate cake - yum!!
We've seen some super helpful Kindys, who made sure all the clearing up was done after their club finished - kudos!
Shout out to our Just Dance DJs who love helping the Educators with playlists and keeping those Hive bodies moving every day.
On that note: Billy's new Fitness Club saw groups of kids jogging around school, doing press-ups and generally looking pretty much ready for Australian Ninja warrior!!

Term 3 Week 4

CLUB NEWS::

  • Our Yr1 kids are SO excited to be a part of SKATE SCHOOL - all the kids are listening really well and learning new skills each week.
  • In SENIORS' KITCHEN the kids helped to BBQ their own snack (lots of fun and big appetites!). In BAKING CLUB our younger chefs loved making fairy biscuits this week in and they all loved Britt's lovely homemade soup with baguette on Wednesday.
  • We've bought a huge new silk parachute - we're having a ball on the front grass making shapes and creating fun physical games, hiding and bouncing!
  • We have a big group of enthusiastic Kindy kids in SCIENCE CLUB every Monday. This week they loved creating marble mazes, using recycled cereal boxes and maths skills!
  • We'll continue to offer a wide range of recycling-themed activities using resources developed to enable learning and also teaching the importance of RECYCLING for a greener future. Please drop your old cereal boxes, cans or plastic bottles to the Hive room and we will use our imagination and create something fabulous! Thank you.

PARENT REMINDERS::
We'll run our termly EMERGENCY DRILLS in Week 5 - email to follow. Thanks in advance for not collecting your children during the drill window.
Thanks for notifying us when your child is ABSENT from a booked session - our daily list of 'missing' kids is getting smaller, and we're very grateful for your cooperation!

Term 3 Week 3

THANK YOUS::
We hope you all enjoyed the fabulous Education Week extravaganza put on by school on Wednesday evening! Thanks for bearing with us and the changed gate access arrangements on the day. We learned a few ways that we can make things smoother for next time around.

Thanks to the kids for all for their suggestions in the Super Suggestion Box! Please keep them coming. We do read them, discuss them at staff meetings and wherever possible act on them. Recently we had requests for more AFL balls (which we bought), more slime activities (which we've programmed in) and more baking club (which we've extended to Kindys and expanded to Seniors' Kitchen now too!)

CLUB NEWS::
Skate School on Thursday afternoon is going strong! The kids are having the best time, and Skater HQ are helping us learn lots of new techniques and fun ways to get the most fro our wheels!
Sports clubs were netball, hockey, basketball and soccer this week - what energetic little bees! Our creative activities were themed around stories such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Little Red Hen whilst the Seniors got bust with scratch art and sand jar designs.

PARENT REMINDERS::

  • Please remember to bring your log-in code and password with you to The Hive. You'll need it to sign your child in/out at the touchscreen
  • A reminder that the centre closes at 6pm. This means you need to be signed out before then. Late sign-outs incur a penalty of $15 per 15min block. If you're unavoidably going to be still on the grounds beyond 6pm (e.g. using the bathroom or unlocking a bike), please alert staff so that you don't get locked in!
