Big Bees for Y1-6
i.e. Y1s can choose which program they prefer on any given day - whoop!

CALL OUT FOR…
1 LITRE CARDBOARD MILK CARTONS - we need them for an upcoming Holiday Program project! Please rinse well and drain. We need the cartons only, not the lids. Thank you!!
🐠 THANK YOU 🐟
To Mo & Dan - parents of Frankie & Sidney - for our new, even-bigger fish tank! We’re looking forward to welcoming more beautiful fish to The Hive - the kids really do love to spend time watching them, feeding them and learning how to to care for them.
WHAT HAVE THE KIDS BEEN UP TO…?
In ART & CRAFT CLUB we saw the most amazing range of activities and skills on show this fortnight - wooden flowers, homemade bracelets, mono-prints, pottery, calligraphy, self portraits, macrame and more! Such a wonderfully creative bunch of bees!
our energetic bees were super busy in SPORTS CLUB, honing their skills in archery, volleyball, skipping, Oztag, hockey, gymnastics plus of course, the uber-popular SKATE SCHOOL!!
Remember, we offer separate sports activities for YK-1, and Y2+, to keep things safe for our littlest bees 👍👍
In BAKING CLUB, our little chefs made their own curly pretzels and choc chip muffins - it doesn’t get more yummy than that!!!
Little scientists were busy this fortnight in EXPLORE & DISCOVER CLUB, as we created our own puffy paint and rainbow sugar scrub!

HIVE’S 2021 NEWSLETTERS!
After a slow start to the year, our fortnightly newsletters are back. We’re super happy this year to have the most ever Kindys joining the Hive - about 75% of the whole year, which is awesome. WELCOME!!
Thank you to all the parents doing a great job of notifying us of absences - gold 🌟to you! This keeps worry levels down in The Hive, and helps you avoid the non-notification penalty fee…
🦠 🦠 COVID 😷 😷
Whilst Covid restrictions are still in effect, we all have to do our bit. PARENTS please remember:
use hand sanitiser inside gate/by iPad
sign in/out on iPad, remain outside Hive room, make eye contact with staff inside
Children cannot be dropped off at the gate - you must bring them to the Hive room
leave school ASAP after drop off/pick up - this is a school requirement
always maintain social distancing - use of a mask is welcomed
✅ ✅ SIGN-OUT PROCESS 👏🏽 👏🏽
For each child, every session, parents must sign in/out on the iPad:
log in using your ID and password
click ‘IN’/‘OUT’ for all relevant children (button turns green/red respectively)
click ‘DONE’
The screen will revert to the log-in window for the next person
if the process doesn’t work properly please alert a staff member at the time
🏖️ HOLIDAY PROGRAM 🏖️
HP will open for bookings in WEEK 7. Our growing numbers (yay!) mean we can once again offer a split program on some days. Due to the spread of ages within the Hive, we’re splitting slightly younger this time:
LITTLE BEES - YK & Y1 (optional)
BIG BEES - Y1 (optional) & Y2-6
essentially, the Y1s can choose which program they’d like to attend
WHEELS DAY on TUESDAY…
As Tuesday’s guided SKATE NOW lesson can only take 15 kids each, on weekly rotation, we’ve decided to expand, running our own WHEELS DAY session alongside. Children can bring their own wheels to school (skateboards, skates, scooters, bikes). This means every gets a go, even if they’re not in the lesson. The children doing the Skate Now lesson must have a signed waiver. Children joining the Hive’s Wheels day do not need one. It’s important that all children follow the rules, so that we continue to be allowed to run these sessions. Your support as parents is invaluable
wheels must be stored in correct designated areas of school during the day. Bike racks for all BIKES and SCOOTERS
HELMETS are compulsory - no helmet, no play
wheels can only be used during the designated Hive activity and must not be ridden during the school day
🛑✋OUR FURRY FRIENDS 🐶🐾
We love pooches as much as the next person, but rules are rules - and they’re there for a good reason.
“ Dogs are not allowed on school premises and are not to be tied on the inside of the school fence at any time either during or outside of school hours.”
IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM SCHOOL

In BAKING CLUB the kids made delicious individual MIXED BERRY HAND PIES - super healthy and yummy, with some natural fruity sweetness
We’re getting into the seasonal spirit with a whole range of CHRISTMAS CRAFTS - we won’t say too much, just in case the kids are keeping their creations as a surprise…
We also enjoyed HAMA BEADS, and created out own FABRIC LETTER SIGNS, as well as the ever-popular MODELLING CLAY
In SPORTS CLUB we kept the kids busy with DODGEBALL, TENNIS, OZTAG and of course our Wednesday WHEELS CLUB is still super busy!

NAIDOC WEEK 2020
The NAIDOC 2020 theme - Always Was, Always Will Be. - recognises and celebrates that First Nations people have occupied and cared for this continent for over 65,000 years. NAIDOC 2020 invites all Australians to embrace the ancient history of this country – a history which dates back thousands of generations.
GATE SECURITY
Thanks to everyone for pulling together whilst we wait for the gates to get fixed. The safety of the children is always our highest priority, so we appreciate your support in pulling the gate closed behind you every time.
AGM
Our AGM ran well on Friday 13th, with financial accounts approved, reports from the President and the Treasurer, appointment of new auditors and votes for the coming year’s Executive Committee role bearers. An enormous thank you to Olivia Wright, who stands down from the Hive Exec after almost two years of solid support and service. And a huge welcome to Selena Van Loon and Sanj Kinsella, who were voted in. Minutes and financial report can be found on our NEWS page.
SENIOR PROJECT - MARKET STALL FOR CHARITY
The current focus for our talented SENIORS group is a charity-based project, running on Wednesday afternoons. The kids have grouped themselves and shared out tasks, such as charity research, brochure, logo & product design, packaging !! The eventual outcome will be a stall at Bondi Markets selling whatever the kids come up with, all proceeds going to our nominated charity. The brief for this first project is simple:
🖤 💛 🐝 B E E S 🐝 💛 🖤
LOVE IN THE TIME OF COVID
We’re supporting local artist Merran Hughes and Create NSW to thank frontline health workers for their efforts during the Covid crisis. Hive children will be decorating paper flags in the coming weeks, which will be hung in local hospitals through Christmas, to cheer up patients and brighten the days of those who’ve been so busy during this unprecedented time.

WHAT HAVE THE KIDS BEEN UP TO…?
We embraced the RECYCLING theme by using some giant boxes to make wearable ROBOTS and also a brand new CUBBY HOUSE (nice one Edie!!)
ART & CRAFT during NAIDOC week was all about using our hands and natural materials, celebrating our connection to the world around us. We used twigs, leaves, sand and clay. We made aboriginal inspired hand prints on our new cubby house and heard multi-cultural stories.
In EXPLORE & DISCOVER we made our own beautiful-smelling BATH BOMBS and we worked with paper to make amazing ORIGAMI creations, exploring different angles and the strengths of various structures
We got busy with Archery, Basketball, Dodgeball and Soccer in SPORTS CLUB. The kids are never short of energy and we saw some great team spirit this fortnight
in our ever-popular BAKING CLUB the kids made BANANA BREAD with CRUMBLE and also their very own curlywurly PRETZELS! So much fun and extreeeeemely yummy 🧑🍳🧑🍳

🎄🎄Next up - our famous HIVE CHRISTMAS PARTY at the end of term 🎄🎄
PLEASE REMEMBER - THE KIDS NEED HATS!
This is a reminder that kids MUST wear hats to school and Hive. No hat = no play, and children will need to stay in the shade…
WHAT HAVE THE KIDS BEEN UP TO…?
🌟🌟 Our SENIOR kids have been helping run children’s meetings and some of the club activities this fortnight. It’s a great way for them to build self-confidence, mix with/role model to the younger children and get a tiny taste of what it’s like to be an Educator. The whole gang have been great, with special shout outs to JADA and LOUIS for their energy and input 🌟🌟
Craft club saw us doing LOADS of prep for the HIVE HALLOWEEN PARTY, making bags for treats, designing sugar skulls, creating spider webs and more…
COMMEMORATION WEEK saw us making ‘Lest We Forget‘ lamps and stained glass poppies
WHEELS DAY is a big hit, with ramps and obstacles to spice things up for our adventurous wheelers!
We even fitted in some SPORTS between the various wet spells with team games such as volleyball, hockey and oztag
in BAKING CLUB the kids loved making their own mini pizzas, with home-made dough!

2021 Hive re-enrolments are open! And this year things look a bit different. The parent portal has been upgraded and re-designed to work perfectly on your phone
Re-enrolment should only take a few minutes - just double check all family details, make sure Ezidebit details are accurate, submit updated medical plans where applicable and let us know any other significant changes.
Please let us know what you think of the new portal…
🐠 🐡 Two fish, four fish, five fish …HIVE FISH!! 🐡 🐠
A huge thank you to Beej, Ben and all our friends at Neighbourhood Bar on Curlewis, who have donated a TANK and FISH for our bees to enjoy! The kids are LOVING catching up on what’s happening in the tank every day, and with 6 different species in there, there’s looooads to see!
WEDNESDAY is WHEELS DAY in Term 4 ! !
WHEELS DAY is here again! Every WEDNESDAY 4-5pm, for all ages. No need to book in or sign waivers/permissions, as we’re running the club ourselves. Just a few rules:
> wheels must be stored in correct designated areas of school during the day
> kids cannot share wheels, for hygiene reasons
> HELMETS are compulsory - no helmet, no play
> wheels can only be used during Hive activity window 4-5pm
BAKING CLUB is BACK!!
Starting Week 3, we’ll be running BAKING CLUB on MONDAYS, for all years. This super popular club took a break due to Covid, but is now back with a few extra rules:
> vigilant hand washing (as ever)
> hand/face hygiene during food prep
> no shared equipment or ingredients
> all foods will be baked and must be taken home, not eaten/shared at Hive.
Thanks to Mia for continuing to provide exciting, delicious, nutritious recipes for the kids to work with!
🦇 👻 🎃 HALLOWEEN PARTY - next Thursday 29th 🧙🏽♀️ 🕸️ 😈
…it’s going to go OFF!!! There’ll be a tonne of great activities, fun games, craft projects and lots of yummy food too. Thanks Edie for all your planning! We’ve shipped in extra staff for the day and are already fully booked, with a waiting list.
Longer term, we’d love to be able to re-grow our Hive team to accommodate more kids once again, but for that to happen we’d need more, regular bookings. Even if you’re working from home, we reckon your kids would love an afternoon or two at The Hive - and the more kids we have, the more we can offer.
⬇️ ⬇️ Finally, a few more pics from the final, bubblicious day of Spring Holiday Program… ⬇️ ⬇️

Happy Hive Friends!
Prepping for Halloween!
Term 3 - Spring Holiday Program
/…was a roaring success! Thank you Lenka for planning and team for delivering another jam-packed, fun-filled program of amazing activities. The kids had an absolute ball! Lenka also managed to find time for a big birthday during the hols - Happy Birthday Lenka!!!
Thanks to our parents for understanding the need to slightly shorten our HP opening hours. Lower bookings since Covid mean our team has shrunk, meaning HP shifts are already longer than they used to be. The small number of children needing care at each end of the day, combined with the need to look after the welfare of the remaining Hive team (who don’t get a break during the holidays!) has led to the slightly shorter day. If term-time bookings pick up again, we can re-grow the team and lengthen our Holiday Program days.
💝💝 Happy Happy 40th Lenka!!! 💝💝
Very few words, just a smörgåsbord of fabulous pics from one of our best Holiday programs EVER!!!
Treasure-hunting Pokemon, exploration and adventures in COOPER PARK…
SLIP ‘N’ SLIDE on the front grass - soooo much fun!!!
A whole range of wonderful ART & CRAFT projects across the fortnight…
🐑 🐖 Fun with FARMER DAVE and his FARM ANIMALS 🐰 🐄
Just chillin in the HIVE ROOM…
Did somebody say GAMES TRUCK??!!
one of our favourite places - CENTENNIAL PARK
We brought in our very own 10m CLIMBING WALL - the kids LOVED it!
…and that’s a wrap!
Term 3 Wk 9-10 - Recycling Week & End of Term!
/Where’s Wally?
SPRING HOLIDAY PROGRAM
Week 1 of HP has kicked off in style, and it’s looking fun-filled and busy-bee - with only a few spots left on Tuesday and Friday. Week 2 still has some spaces, so don’t forget to make your bookings!
Remember:
we’re open 8:00am - 5:00pm during the holidays
children must be signed in on the iPad - they can’t be dropped at the gate
send RECESS and PACKED LUNCH every day
kids can bring their own WHEELS - HELMETS are compulsory
HIVE ENROLMENTS FOR 2021
In Week 2 of Term 4 we’ll open up 2021 enrolments to our existing Hive families, so please be ready to double-check details and resubmit your forms and update child profiles for all children attending the Hive. Further instructions will follow closer to the time.
CALL OUT FOR LARGE BOXES
The kids have LOVED making robot box outfits recently, so if you have any spare large boxes (big enough to fit a child inside with arm holes) then please bring them in - we’d love to make some more!! 🤖🤖🤖
HIVE KIDS UPDATE
We got busy with bottle tops in week 9, making pots out of all the recycled tops we could find.
Our younger bees also loved making dolls out of wooden spoons, with fabric for clothes and string for hair!
we’ve had tonnes of fun with Hama beads, marker pens, wooden blocks and recycled paper beads!
The Hive’s older kids get more inventive every week with their magnetic creations - this week saw Andrey and Diego make an amazing marble run
sports clubs were as busy as ever - including hockey, tennis, soccer, basketball and volleyball, to name just a few….
