2021 ENROLMENTS & NEW-LOOK PARENT PORTAL

2021 Hive re-enrolments are open! And this year things look a bit different. The parent portal has been upgraded and re-designed to work perfectly on your phone
Re-enrolment should only take a few minutes - just double check all family details, make sure Ezidebit details are accurate, submit updated medical plans where applicable and let us know any other significant changes.
Please let us know what you think of the new portal…

🐠 🐡 Two fish, four fish, five fish …HIVE FISH!! 🐡 🐠

A huge thank you to Beej, Ben and all our friends at Neighbourhood Bar on Curlewis, who have donated a TANK and FISH for our bees to enjoy! The kids are LOVING catching up on what’s happening in the tank every day, and with 6 different species in there, there’s looooads to see!

WEDNESDAY is WHEELS DAY in Term 4 ! !

WHEELS DAY is here again! Every WEDNESDAY 4-5pm, for all ages. No need to book in or sign waivers/permissions, as we’re running the club ourselves. Just a few rules:
> wheels must be stored in correct designated areas of school during the day
> kids cannot share wheels, for hygiene reasons
> HELMETS are compulsory - no helmet, no play
> wheels can only be used during Hive activity window 4-5pm

BAKING CLUB is BACK!!

Starting Week 3, we’ll be running BAKING CLUB on MONDAYS, for all years. This super popular club took a break due to Covid, but is now back with a few extra rules:
> vigilant hand washing (as ever)
> hand/face hygiene during food prep
> no shared equipment or ingredients
> all foods will be baked and must be taken home, not eaten/shared at Hive.

Thanks to Mia for continuing to provide exciting, delicious, nutritious recipes for the kids to work with!

🦇 👻 🎃 HALLOWEEN PARTY - next Thursday 29th 🧙🏽‍♀️ 🕸️ 😈

…it’s going to go OFF!!! There’ll be a tonne of great activities, fun games, craft projects and lots of yummy food too. Thanks Edie for all your planning! We’ve shipped in extra staff for the day and are already fully booked, with a waiting list.

Longer term, we’d love to be able to re-grow our Hive team to accommodate more kids once again, but for that to happen we’d need more, regular bookings. Even if you’re working from home, we reckon your kids would love an afternoon or two at The Hive - and the more kids we have, the more we can offer.

Term 3 - Spring Holiday Program

…was a roaring success! Thank you Lenka for planning and team for delivering another jam-packed, fun-filled program of amazing activities. The kids had an absolute ball! Lenka also managed to find time for a big birthday during the hols - Happy Birthday Lenka!!!

Thanks to our parents for understanding the need to slightly shorten our HP opening hours. Lower bookings since Covid mean our team has shrunk, meaning HP shifts are already longer than they used to be. The small number of children needing care at each end of the day, combined with the need to look after the welfare of the remaining Hive team (who don’t get a break during the holidays!) has led to the slightly shorter day. If term-time bookings pick up again, we can re-grow the team and lengthen our Holiday Program days.

💝💝 Happy Happy 40th Lenka!!! 💝💝

AN ATTITUDE OF GRATITUDE…

On Sunday 6th we said Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads & Lads out there who play a significant role in the lives of our Hive children. We salute you all and hope you enjoyed the various gifts that the kids brought home - they sure had great fun making them!

———

In another moment of gratitude, Weds 2nd Sep was Early Childhood Educators’ Day and the Australian Government sent out this message:

“We recognise the extraordinary contribution of educators. Our educators provide an incredibly important contribution to the wellbeing and healthy development of our children.
This year has been particularly challenging for the nation, but educators have continued to support our working families throughout this pandemic. We owe them a great deal of gratitude for their work.
Today, and every other day, we thank our early childhood educators.”

Awww thanks, Aussie government!

SAFETY OF STUDENTS

Aligning with last week’s school newsletter, we understand that children might tell parents about issues or concerns arising during Hive but which have not been brought to the attention of our educators. We remind parents please not to approach other children, as there are more appropriate ways to deal with any concerns. Please contact Edie or Lenka if your child has told you of an incident they need support with and remind your child to always let an educator know immediately if something happens.

Have you seen our fabulous Rainbow Serpent on the inside wall above the Hive door?
In craft week we made our own balsa wood dolls houses & door signs, we experimented with tie-dye, sculpted with clay and did loads of drawing.
In sports we played street hockey, dodgeball, volleyball, we made obstacle courses and we also found time for some drama. Phew!!

FAREWELL ETHAN & WELCOME ROMAN

We’re sad to say goodbye to Ethan, an Educator at The Hive for the last 3 years. Ethan has been especially popular with those kids who enjoy skateboarding and soccer, and has been a valuable and much-loved team member. He leaves us to join a company doing work related directly to his university studies. Go well Ethan, we’ll miss you!

We’re super happy to welcome Roman to the team! Also the lovely Aiya is back with us helping out, whilst Priscila takes a little holiday. Good to see you, Aiya!

It’s been a tough term for everyone but we love creating a space where the kids’ smiles and bright ideas can shine! Another busy week of sports, activities and experiments, take a look…

  • As usual, lots of takers for our CRAFT activities. We got busy making fridge magnets by colouring in wooden clothes pegs and using mosaic diamond decorations

  • some of the boys were so keen for some screen time that they CREATED THEIR OWN iPADS out of cardboard, and then played on them. We see that as a win-win scenario! :-)

  • DRAWING CLUB is growing and it’s so good to see the kids getting such satisfaction out of a simple, creative activity together with their friends
