Term 4 Week 8 - Celebrating Summer!

HIVE CHRISTMAS PARTY!!
Our Hive Christmas Party will be next Thursday, 12th Dec and we’d love to see some parents there! The fun starts at 3:30pm so please join us to celebrate another wonderful year together at The Hive.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM::
Bookings are filling up fast, so don’t leave it until the last minute. Remember, bookings for Tue 28 Jan fall into Term 1, and can be found under ‘Next Year’s Bookings’ - you need a 2020 enrolment for Tue 28 Jan onwards.

CALL OUT FOR A KEYBOARD…
Do any families have an electronic musical keyboard that they no longer need and would consider donating to The Hive? We have some musical Educators who’d like to develop the idea of a music club, and lots of children who are keen to get involved. We already have drums and guitars and we’re just missing a keyboard. C’mon, universe…! ;-)

LATE COLLECTION AFTER 6PM::
An email has gone out this week about a slow creep back towards multiple late collections, after 6pm. PLEASE be on time to collect, which means your child should be signed out by 6pm. Sign-outs after 6pm carry a minimum $15 penalty fee and I’ve asked the team to tighten up on this, so that we can bring things back into good shape.


CLUB NEWS::

  • Remember: SENIORS have a MINI-EXCURSION on Wednesdays, returning to school around 4:45pm. They do take their bags and you’re welcome to collect directly from the grassy area behind the fenced playground next to Bondi SLSC

  • more challenging conditions with smoke meant not so many SPORTS this week, so we focused instead on…

  • ART & CRAFT the kids explored an outdoor summer theme, making paper windmills, rainbow wind chimes and mini pocket fans

  • Our little scientists got busy in EXPLORE & DISCOVER using natural materials to make their own paintbrushes, and then creating their own sand paint to use with them!

Term 4 Week 7 - Ocean Week

HIVE CHRISTMAS PARTY!!
On the afternoon of Thursday 12th December, we’ll hold our Hive Christmas Party, and we’d love you to come! From 3:30pm we’ll be running loads of fun Christmas-themed activities and games, there’ll be party food and music - and maybe even a visit from Santa…! Please join us for the fun and to celebrate another wonderful year together at The Hive

ENROLMENTS FOR 2020:: Don’t forget it’s a two stage process.

  1. You must ‘FINALISE’ your new/re-enrolment and wait for approval. This can take up to a week

  2. Once your enrolment is approved, you can then log on and book the sessions you’d like. These will be approved by mid-December

CLUB NEWS::

  • For EXPLORE & DISCOVER this week we started making our own crystal coral reefs! We are waiting for them to grow in the Hive room and can’t wait to see the amazing creations that will slowly appear

  • Our theme this week was the OCEAN, so we had lots of related craft, such as whales, underwater jewellery and decoupage wooden fishies!!

  • The favourite SPORTS this week were soccer, hockey and basketball

  • There’s been lots of MAGNET play in the chill zone this week - check out the photo above!

  • Our little free-play peeps had a blast this week with our huge LEGO collection. BEYBLADES were a big hit too!

  • MOVIE CLUB goes from strength to strength - very busy and popular! The kids are really enjoying playing with different genres, styles and sounds…

WEATHER ALERTS:: More smoky conditions this week. Rest assured we change our plans as needed, and we make the most of our wide range of indoor resources, games and imaginations (not to mention the air con… ;-)

NEW WALL DISPLAY:: We’re putting together our ‘hello’ wall display, using flags and languages from all around the world. Thanks to everyone for sending ion your info - it really is cool to see how many different countries and cultured are represented here in Bondi Beach!

GATE SECURITY:: We’ve installed a new screen in the Hive room to help improve the safety and security of all our kids, by allowing better visibility of all access/exit points at school. Keeping your children safe is—always—our highest priority.

CLUB NEWS::

  • Well done to all the children whose work was displayed at Festivilion last weekend. The exhibition was amazing, and we’re lucky to have lots of the work now on show in the Hive room. Enjoy!

  • In ART & CRAFT club we were super busy! Floral hangers, Hama beads and sand art, to name but a few activities.

  • We’re making the very most of our new iPads, with lots of children continuing to learn about MOVIE-MAKING. We’ve also been using them for DRAWING tutorials, which has kept the kids very focused on some of our enforced indoor days…

  • Our SENIORS have finished their Festivilion activities and are now enjoying MINI-EXCURSIONS across to the beach and play area.

  • In our indoor CHILL OUT zone, we saw some wonderful creations made of lego, blocks and magnets. The kids love to let their creativity run free with these fine motor skill resources.

  • When the weather allowed us outdoors, we got busy with a SOCCER comp and lots of BASKETBALL.

“FESTIVILION” 2019 - Sat 16th November::
A final reminder about ‘Festivilion’ this weekend, featuring kids art workshops and 'clay play', music from Rose Bay Secondary College, jazz and choir performances and more. Half of BBPS will be there, with performances from the violin group, choir and dance ensembles, plus loads of Hive kids’ artwork on display! Come and enjoy this local community festival… ;-)

POLICY REVIEW::
We have a process of regular policy review here at The Hive. Sometimes this happens behind the scenes, involving changes which do not directly affect our families. At other times, we review policies that do impact you directly and we would value your input towards this process, to ensure that our policies best reflect the needs of our families, whilst also satisfying the stringent regulations applicable to all OSHC centres.

We will communicate via email regarding the review of individual policies which directly affect you the parents. Please watch your inbox, and do take a few minutes out of your day to review what we’re proposing and give us your input.

Please make sure your children bring hats to school every day
We give the kids sunscreen every afternoon at roll call.

CLUB NEWS::

  • Thanks to Tobi, mum of Archie (Y1) who brought in a big bag of recyclable materials this week - perfect timing for our week’s theme

  • Our ARTY CRAFTY kids got busy making their own paint out of soil, crushed chalk, water and baking soda.

  • We also made a start on some CHRISTMAS decorations this week. Yep, it’s happening folks… ;-)

  • Lots of SPORT this week (when conditions allowed), with the play equipment and HOCKEY proving very popular. We continue to watch the older kids learn self regulation sportsmanship with their impromptu touch rugby games on the front grass

Term 4 Week 4

“FESTIVILION” 2019 - Sat 16th November

Our kids are working on various artworks this term which will form part of ‘Festivilion’ at Bondi Pavilion.

There will be kids art workshops and 'clay play', music from Rose Bay Secondary College, jazz and choir performances and more. Wander through and see the marine installation, grab some food from the sizzle and enjoy the fairground atmosphere. Half of BBPS will be there, with performances from the violin group, the choir and dance ensembles. Come and enjoy this local community festival!

ENROLMENTS 2020 ::

Enrolments are open, and all families are required by the government to go through the process annually. Your form will be pre-filled from this year, so it won’t take long.

When you log on, you’ll see a new sub-menu called “Enrolment for 2020”. Please click and review all existing information, add any new children for 2020 and on the last page, click “FINALISE”.
You’ll receive a system-generated confirmation email that your form has been submitted for approval. We will process those approvals on an as-submitted basis.
We do not anticipate any waiting lists for 202 - fantastic news!!

  • Our ARTY CRAFTY kids got busy making origami bookmarks this week - check out the pics. This was a kids’ suggestion, and they loved the activity!

  • we had a tonne of SPORTS happening this week - rugby, soccer, gymnastics and of course WHEELS DAY for our little ones this term. And don’t forget Beyblade Club!

  • Our SENIORS are busy making an art installation for FESTIVILION (see photos). And Caprese Salad was on the menu for Seniors’ Kitchen this week.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

We had a HALLOWEEN PARTY on Wednesday. The kids and the team had an amazing time.

ENROLMENTS 2020

Everybody must re-enroll and request sessions for the year 2020. No booking will remain in the system.

The system allows re-enrolments from Monday 4/11/19. From that Monday you’ll see a new submenu in the Becklyn system named “Enrolment for 2020”. Please click on it to review all existing information, add new child for the coming school year, and on the last page, please click “FINALISE”. A confirmation email will be sent to the nominated email address and to the Hive too.

We apply sun protection policy: NO HAT - NO PLAY. We also use a sunscreen every day from this week during the summer.

  • HALLOWEEN: apart from having a party on Wednesday, we did face painting and hair colouring on Thursday to help kids get ready for the trick or treat!

  • BAKING CLUB: Kids with Mia made an amazing carrot cake. Kids were using grater - no accident happened :-)

  • ART & CRAFT CLUB: kids were busy prepping art material for the Festivilion happening in Pavilion.

We’re having a HALLOWEEN PARTY on Wednesday from 4pm to 5:30pm, with all sorts of ghoulish treats and tricks! Make a spider mask with us… Parents are welcome to join us.

Term 4 Week 1 - Cultural Week and Spring HP

HIVE NEWS & PARENT REMINDERS::

MINI EXCURSIONS - FESTIVILION:

The Hive have been invited to participate in The Sea Dragon Project, a community arts project that will be held at Bondi Pavilion as part of Festivilion.

Festivilion, is an event being coordinated by the Friends of Bondi Pavilion and supported by Waverley Council, to celebrate our community, creativity and the Pavilion.

The Hive kids are invited to create sea themed artwork to exhibit in the Pavilion. They are also invited to participate in a twilight lantern parade, as part of the formal celebration of the event. Workshops have been scheduled in the weeks prior to the event, where the kids can make their lanterns and other artwork.

The kids will have an opportunity to work on large scale artworks at the Pavilion. These will be exhibited for a few days in the foyer of the Pavilion. On festival day, there will be acoustic music performances and drop in art workshops underneath their marine installation. The lantern parade will begin beneath the lighted marine sculptures. Face paint and costumes will naturally be encouraged for this auspicious event.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM & HATCHING CHICKS!!

We hatched chicks and ducklings! The most popular program for the kids. Kids love animals and observing how the little chickens and ducklings come to this world was such a great experience.
